My version of the V1 Remote Display + remote mute + Lidatek LED

My version of the V1 Remote Display + remote mute + Lidatek LED
My remote display is located on the dash. It also houses the LED for my Lidatek LE-30, in place of the mute button.
Making the remote display
The remote display installation required the following:
- remove remote display's housing
- remove/desolder RJ-11 jack from remote display PCB
- remove mute button
- solder a 10-wire ribbon cable directly to the RJ-11's pads on the remote display PCB
- 6 conductors for the RJ-11 (in reality, I only needed the middle 4 since outer 2 are unused)
- 2 conductors for mute button, soldered to mute button's vias
- 2 conductors for Lidatek LED, each soldered to one of the pads that were used for the sides of the old RJ-11 jack
- mount a dual-color LED for the Lidatek onto a black screw cap, then attach it to the front face of the remote display

Sorry, no detailed pics of the ribbon cable (yet, stay tuned)

Making and installing the mute button
I soldered a momentary switch to the end of an RJ-11 cable. I attached it to my turn signal using 2 zap straps and double sided tape. Below are pics when I was testing out the position of the button. I've since removed the zap strap and the red/white parts of the tape; it looks really discreet now.

Making my custom remote display adaptor
I had to make an adaptor that would bridge together the ribbon cable, the V1's hardwire remote display port, and my mute button. So I epoxied together 2 RJ-11 sockets and a ribbon cable plug together, then soldered wires between them all. One of these RJ-11 sockets basically is an extension of the one that was originally on the remote display's PCB. The other is for the mute button.

Installing the remote display
I pulled off the dash piece right above the steering column, and taped the remote display to it. I used hockey tape and it seems to perform much better than duct tape or electrical tape. After reinstalling the dash piece with the remote display attached, I wedged a tiny piece of foam behind the display and the dash to keep the display in place.

Note: My V1 is in the usual location, hardwired above the left side of the rear view mirror.
To do: Make an interior-matching enclosure for the V1; I envison that it'll attach to the ceiling via removing the mini-sunshade and reusing the screwhole. Then it'll be totally stealth Anyone know how/where I can get fabric to match the interior (beige)?
Note: I grabbed the mute button idea off of someone else's post (can't remember who)
To do: Install the Lidatek. Update Lidatek installed!
