Default Remote/fob replacement

Hello, I have a year 2002 Audi A4 Q 3.0, and I only have one remote at the time, and I want to make another one for my family to use.

Is my car a B5 or B6? How do you determine it?

Do I need a VAG-COM in order for me to program my new remote? If so, how do you program it using the VAG-COM?

Thanks

Default your car is a B6...

2002-2005 are B6.

As for the remote, you dont need the VAG-COM. There's a way to program a new key...but i dont remember how, perhaps someone else here can answer the question.

"As for the remote, you dont need the VAG-COM".

How sure are you about this? How do you know it.

As for the instruction on program the key, is two keys all you need to perform the task, or do you need something other tools?

I bought a replacement key from the dealer and and the key fob from ebay (FCC# matches existing remote). I tried to program it but it hasn't work as of yet. I am not sure if the immobilzer in the key has to be programmed by the dealer befor the unlock/lock functions can be programmed. Maybe someone else can shed some light on the subject. Here are the instructions

Default If you have the Immobilizer, it is more complicated than you think...

The dealers no longer can acccess the SKC (secret Key Code) to program the immobilizer. They need to hook up the car to their system, which then hooks up to the factory for programming. The dealers never see the SKC anymore. I think Audi is trying to clamp down on the ECU issues (chipping etc.). If you already have your SKC, it is easy, and yes, you would need a VAG COM. If you do not have the SKC, you will need to go to your dealer for programming, and pay an hour labor (even though it takes 30 minutes tops).

I have an uncut key I got fro eBay, along with a compatible keyfob, but I could not find a dealer (Audi or VW) that would cut the key blank for me.

I ended up going to the Audi Dealer, they obtained a laser-cut ket from Germany, then they programmed the car. Total cost was about $250 including the parts and hour labor, not cheap, but hey, I needed two keys!
