wish of the B6 forum to make their cars understeer less got me thinking.
While you can tinker with the suspension bits, sway bars and such to make the car understeer less (or even push it to oversteer), there is a far cheaper and more effective way.
Our cars start with the weight of approximately 3400 lbs (5-speed quattro) and a weight distribution of 60/40 (f/r). Of course the thing that causes the car to understeer is poor weight distribution and the extra 680 lbs over the front wheels.
It seems to me that the cheaper and far more effective way to eliminate understeer is to make the car's weight distribution 50/50. This can be accomplished by placing bags filled with sand into the trunk. I believe that several bags should not cost more than $50-$70. This makes it more cost effective than any sway bars. Also you can control the amount of understeer/oversteer by controlling the amount of sand you place in the trunk. You can make the B6 have 50/50 or even 45/55 weight distribution. Granted the car will be somewhat slower (and the rear springs might not last long as well as some minor rubbing issues), but you'll oversteer with the best of them.
Alternatively if you work for the mafia you can use corpses (or dead hookers - thanks A4Jax) to control the amount of the rear weight (they're in the trunk anyway). Just don't forget to weight them properly to dial in the necessary amount of the weight required.
I trust that the above information will be helpful to the B6 crew.
*BTW this post is not to be taken in any way shape or form seriously. If you actually thinking about trying out any of these ideas - DON'T. Get coilovers and sway bars instead*
Happy Monday!
