Default Changed oil and oil light is on?

I just sold my A4 to someone and the car has been running fine for him. He had someone change the oil on it and he said the oil light came on and oil pressure was tested low. He isn't blaming me or anything, but that's pretty weird that changing the oil made the oil pump start to fail. I use Amsoil Series 2000 0w30 Synthetic. The car has been sitting around a bit, could the pump have just dried up and needs primed or something?

Secondly, since he knows I am handy w/ these cars he's asked me if I could change it for him. I haven't agreed to do it yet, but wouldn't it be a bolt-off and bolt-on proceedure after taking the belly pan off?

Default Check the gasket around the oil plug....

If it is corroded, not there, etc...might be a start where to look...I know on mine it looked suspect the last time I changed mine..so Im getting it replaced when I go in for my 40,000 maintenance...

Are you inferring there could be oil leaking from the oil pan?

Low OP/sludge frequently occurs after changing oil/filter. I'm not shure why, but it does. Sorry.

Default He's ordering a new oil pump...

So I imagine it'll help cure that issue. Although the engine has been using synthetic for the past 40k and the previous was Audi serviced. I'm not too confident that it is sludge. I'll see when the oil pan is dropped I suppose.

Maybe AMSoil will cover the repair.

Default Yea I hd thought about that but the research that they'd need to do to see if that was the problem..

Would take months. He would rather fix the oil pump himself than wait at this point.

Am I right in suspecting that I'll be able to tell if sludging is the issue when I take the oil pan off and look in it and on the crank/rods?

Default "the previous was Audi serviced..."

My bet is previous Audi service included extended intervals using some cheapo dino. If so, I'd bet on sludge. Get some AutoRx.

Default AutoRx after the new oil pump?

The car was a highway car and probably 1000 miles out of the 40,000 I've driven were stop-n-go. I'm skeptical of sludge still.

No one has answered my previous question, will I be able to diagnose sludging w/ the oil pan dropped?

Make sure to stop using Amsoil as it will not meet your engine sludge warranty.
