Default How do you roll fenders on B6 avants?

How do you roll fenders on B6 avants? By looking at the fender it looks like there is nothing to role, however, according to foofighter it is possible. How is it done?

Default you need the fender rolling tool...

But do we have a lip like that? The purpose is to roll that lip out towards the outside of the fender so the tire doesn't rub. I can't remember if we have an underside lip.

Default they are universal... but...

when the b6's rear is lowered, the trailing arms are less extended... and hub center is actually more rearward.

So using a tool to modify the fender arch off center will produce unpredictable results. Plus, its very, I say VERY easy to distort the fenders with the tool. Plus, the paint edge on the fender lip will eventually crack.

(Been there... done that... paid the piper on my old B5... never again)

See my post below to your earlier inquiry.

Default I wondered if the paint would suffer. Good to hear that you have real world experience....

We can learn from your mistake.

Default thank you...

yep... mine looked good for about a month, as soon as it got cold out, they cracked. I never noticed it... till one day I ran a rag along the edge of the fender, and pulled off a 1/2" square chip of paint. that sure sucked... I ended up having to gob a blob of touchup paint to fix it.

Bottom line... if your wheels are rubbing the fenders without spacers... then you have a fitment problem. This is why I run 19x8's all around. 235's fit without stretch, and a perfectly vertical sidewall... better protection for the rims as well.

I used to run 19x 8.5s, and they rubbed with my coilover setup... and the car rode like poo in comparo to the 19x8's.

My philosophy is to setup the car so it can be driven hard, without issue. No airdams to scrape, nothing to rub.

Default You don't have to use that tool....

You can use a wooden baseball bat...jack...and a lot of patience. But if you goof...youre hosed.

Default

Having rolled the fenders on at least five B5 A4s, you just need to use a heat gun.

Default and also having rolled several myself... I actually owned the tool

and since sold it.

And all of them have cracked on the edges months later... regardless of the heat gun or not.
