Default For you guys who were also on the AW sponsored "Lidatek GB"; I thought that some of this insight...

might come in handy

Total install time = 3 hours.
Enjoy... I know I will

A couple of installation observations & alteration/enhancements to Don Pavlik's Lidatek LE-30 Install Tech Tip...I pretty much got some pointers and insight from this install but I believe I've actually installed mine much better. A thanks though still goes out to the Don & his Tech Install Write-Up...

Here's my version of the LIDATEK install...

The location of the transponder as noted in the installation manual; that full unobstructed view is recommended for optimal functionality. So I located my transponder within the lower grille supported securely w/ the mounting bracket they've provided...I needed to do some custom bending to get it just perfect.

Routing the cable was in my mind the biggest hurdle...I basically followed the route of thick battery "hot" wire that directly comes from the battery through the firewall. It was truly the only passage that was available...As indicated in Don's Write-Up, in a manual transmission car, the spare grommets are taken by the clutch cable and other stuff that makes that passage unusable....Sorry no pics here.

I did not like the toggle (on/off) switch that was provided w/ the unit so I went to my local Radio Shack and picked up a low profile (OEM looking) switch (#275-693...$2.69). I merely, just cut the toggle switch off and attached the new switch w/ female quick connectors. I located the switch in a discrete and convenient location (stealth yet accessible). It's located in the center of the top panel section of the owner's manual compartment (below the steering wheel's shaft housing). Check it out...

There is perfect location of the speaker, which I stumbled upon when I pulled the driver's side knee bolster panel (the panel that needs to be removed when accessing all the wiring). It is actually an OEM location for a speaker of some sort. I popped out the circular carpeted insulation, then custom cut the exact speaker size I needed from that piece I just popped out. The Lidatek speaker then just snuggly fits within that insulation piece...I then just taped the speaker/insulation piece back into the lower panel...The tape I used was just some duct tape...That really should hold it fine and in place (the speaker and insulation is very light). Here is a pic of the panel from below and the speaker holes/perforations...

The LED light that was provided is kinda cool in that it changes color upon different laser conditions. Basically, green when ready, red when being violated by laser and orange when in the reset mode (Green/Red/Orange)...All of those colors are great but I was not liking the green LED in an ALL RED lighting dashboard...So what I did was just swap the 2 LED wires and now my sequence of LED lights is now (Red/Green/Orange)...Just PERFECT for me in that in the ready mode, the Red LED glows and matches the dashboard lights. I know the logic is a bit, bassackwards, but who cares, the lights now match and still provides very useful visual alerts.

A little ¼" hole was needed to be drilled behind the trim piece to allow the wire to pass into the wiring area (there is no existing hole or any passage). The hole in the face trim is a 15/64" bit and with a dab of super glue, the LED will stay it in place. Check it out...

The rest of the wiring and the power taps are all pretty straight forward. Very similar to a Radar Detector Hard Wire Install.

Watcha Guys think ???

Default But does it have a jammer like the Passport SR7? if its just a warning...its worthless in my book

Need to have something to screw up their guns too...other wise you still have the possibility of getting nailed...all that money for a "toy"...and if so whats the difference between the two and whats it cost?

Default LE-30 is a dedicated laser jammer. Before you say it's worthless

why don't you learn something about all the products out there. Seems to me you know Escort products and that's it.

I don't know how many times people asked this question on this forum when the GB was going on. This forum in particular seems to have a problem with radar/laser detection jamming products (not all members, but higher % than other forums).

This is a tech article done by Audiworld on the previous model LE-20

Default Im not saying it's worthless...just give us some more info thats all so we understand and apreciate

you mod a little bit more...thats all the forum is...is sharing ideas and opinions...i only said it was worthless if it was just a detector(how about reading my entire post before jumping down my throat?) i was refering to the ordinary $2 and 3 hundred dollar "toys" and thought that maybe this was one of them but if not then do like i said fill us in more about it.

Default I have personally run this unit against a number of lidar guns ...

I have yet to swap the wires to reverse the led illumination (too lazy) but will.

This is an awesome unit. It detects the incoming lidar signal, fires back its own version of the same signal after identifying the particular gun emmiting the signal. The gun recieves its own signals and the LE 30 signals and cannot create a time and distance table to calculate speed.

The LE 30 sends a signal for 6 seconds then recycles for 30 seconds. The early units had a 2 second protection time so 6 is improved. That allows the coppers to get a reading if the are persistent but allows you enough time to slow down first. The unit emits a sound for the 6 seconds and a visual alert via the LED.

The unit worked 100% of the time. I have about 15 minutes of raw video footage of the unit in action but I need to get a friend to edit it before I will post it up.

Default aren't jammers (laser or radar) illegal pretty much in every state?

I thought the rule was that as long as the device does not emit any frequency that can interfere with an officer's reading, it can be used. That's why I've just stuck with the V1 and kept my fingers crossed that I wouldn't run into laser. If you get caught using a jammer, that's a big time offence, right? Just wondering.
BTW --> Fantastic install!
