my tomtom navigator setup
finally finalized my pocketpc based navigation setup. my first try was a powered mount which is not very pretty so i placed it under the phone. but after almost bumping into a car in front when i had to look at the screen, i decided on a much better setup.

a closer look at the pda.

i found a 'perfect' spot to place the tomtom bluetooth gps receiver. totally hidden. the gps cradle that came with it is hardwired on ignition. when i start the engine, the cradle turns the gps on, and turns it off when i stop the engine.

from outside, the reciever is somewhere here...

there must be some signal degradation by hiding it but i still receive up to 8 satellite fixes.
and finally, if you notice the stereo jack on the picture of the pda, it is connected to this box...

which is then connected to the nav control/+/- of the audi symphony 2. when the pda sends a sound, it grounds the nav control within milliseconds. the effect is that the music is toned down and the tomtom voice commands are heard on top of the music. got the box from this site.
