till something happens? I sometimes get teh feeling remours are put out to placate customers when real info should.

Sometimes its said that real info would create panic, but I think its about as bad in that department as its gonna get, sending out info to people that would likely appreciate it shouldnt be a problem, as in throw us a bone.

I remember a while back when there were rumours of a callback being 2 to 3 weeks away.

while some of the data certainly falls prey to compounding variables... it is interesting. IE, there are more audis in the northeast than in the southwest, the failure may or may not be dependent on the weather, could be mileage or time passage, us AW's are not the average... but it is still very interesting to theorize on...

but good job on gathering the data and preparing it in such a nice format....

I personally have lost 2, and I think my #2 is going to go soon... I am hoping I can make it to the next revision ;-)

Thanks for that. It's been an interesting undertaking. I read somewhere that, in retirement, one should:

1) Take on a project using skills developed in the workplace.

2) Make sure that project represents a service to your fellow man.

3) It needs to be a project that provides positive feedback, the feedback that you no longer get as a useless old fart who's no longer of value to anyone anymore.

Well, this project, until recently, has met all that criteria. Unfortunately, the requirements of #3 have been dwindling away. I think people have just about 'had it up to here' with this whole ignition coil thing. It might be best if I just stop posting survey results. Originally I started doing this to show what's 'real'. Do you remember the 'theories' that were being bounced around? Now I sense that all it does is act as a reminder of just how bad things are.

Unfortunately, the feedback I get these days has more to do with how I might do it better, or about what is not shown, or how I can hire someone to get better survey distribution (email), or worse (see post below).

I really felt sorry for the fellow a few days ago, who after reading about all those frustrated coilpack victims who are stuck waiting for coils, suggested a viable alternative, albeit expensive. He was flamed off the forum not to mention that AudiWorld deleted his posts. Sad, sad, sad.

I've suspected for a while that coilpack recall rumors have been more 'plants' than reality. And yes, that 'few weeks' rumor has recently evolved into 'sometime in March'. I've supported these rumors in the past because people need hope. The depression on this forum had been becoming really dismal.

During this next few weeks, I'll be formatting all this stuff to make it as impactful as I can for a letter to NHTSA. I'm going to do a data dump ... My last hoorah. The funny thing is, the last time I said this, new rumors suddenly hit the forum. This time I will ignore the rumors, regardless of how reliable the supposed source is.

I've always been a bit of an optimist. I've always believed that if you can find someone to 'take the reigns' and champion the cause, 'right' will win in the end. This project is slowly and progressively dampening that level of entheusiasm.

Thank God for people like you who provide smiles and humor (humour to you) to this forum.

Sorry for the dump. It's the last thing this forum needs.

Okay, enough of this. Onward and upward.

Hi Marjorie,

How are you. From the looks of things your job should become easier and more pleasant now that ignition coil inventory is improving. There's finally a light at the end of the tunnel, right?

. On top are those situations where a forum member had to leave his or her car at the dealer because no ignition coils were available.

. On the bottom line are shown those situations where the ignition coil was available and and the car was repaired right away.

It's good to see that the frequency of the events on the bottom line is increasing. The trend is truly encouraging.

Are we approaching that point where Audi of America will call those of us who own cars having the type of ignition coils that will fail to tell us to come in and have them replaced with the new revision coils? Are we almost there? Any good news on this front?

Thank you who ever you are for all the charts. I am included in there somewhere. The most interesting part was that my dealer actes as if it was the first one they had and coilpack failures were a rairty.
