Default REPOST: Recoding the TIPTRONIC : Steering wheel buttons override Drive/Sport

Codes for '02 allroad 2.7T^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h A4 Tiptronic with Drive and Sport modes, and Tip steering wheel controls:

01002 = Stock coding; live steering wheel Tiptronic controls in Tip mode only; new Tip strategy, DSP active.

00002 = Live steering wheel Tiptronic controls in D, S or Tip mode; new Tip strategy, DSP active.

01012 = Live steering wheel Tiptronic controls in Tip mode only; new Tip strategy, DSP inactive.

00012 = Live steering wheel Tiptronic controls in D, S or Tip mode; new Tip strategy, DSP inactive.

01022 = Live steering wheel Tiptronic controls in Tip mode only; old Tip strategy, DSP active.

00022 = Live steering wheel Tiptronic controls in D, S or Tip mode; old Tip strategy, DSP active.

00032 = Live steering wheel Tiptronic controls in D, S or Tip mode; old Tip strategy, DSP inactive.

-- New Tiptronic strategy is: "when the shifter is in the Tiptronic gate, the transmission will automatically shift up or down based on preset RPMs and throttle position values."

-- Old Tiptronic strategy is: "when the shifter is in the Tiptronic gate, the transmission will hold gears to RPM redline. When the car is braked to a stop, first gear will automatically be selected."

Here's the results of initial testing:
000002 is new tip strategy, you could try old tip strategy, or disable DSP too by the chart we stole from the B6/S4 forums..

It worked! My stock coding was 001002 and I changed it to 000002...

I gained the use of the tip buttons while in D or S. The only bad thing I noticed is that you have to do extra work to get back into D. You either have to move the shifter over to TIP and back or move the shifter to S and then back into D. Since my 02MY car doesn't have a lock on S mode I can just bump the shifter down and up. I noticed on newer A4's you have to hold the button down to go from D to S.

I love being able to blip the buttons the wheel anytime to get a down shift!!! I also upshift early alot when I'm conserving gas, since the car seems to like 4th a lot.

Default NeedforSleep: Thanks where do you shift?

you know shifting at like 4800-5000rpm (this is anticipating tiptronic lag makes the car go fastest when you have stage 1+ APR.

I want to get rid of the auto-kick down in tip mode. It drives me bonkers to tip in at 70mph (turbo doesn't spool till 75-80mph) and get a kick down to 5000rpm, when all i wanted was to reach 80mph at a leisurely boosted pace.

Try coding the OLD TIP STRATEGY and let me know how that feels.

Heck try the DSP inactive (DRIVE/SPORT) with OLD tip strategy and tell us how the experience changes the car with this new steering wheel/paddle override "feature".

It sounds like i'll be driving in TIP alot more.

Default I have the 00032 code in my 2002 A6 4.2 and...

...I call it tiptronic "on-demand" since the buttons work without being in tiptronic. However, on mine it reverts back to D or S after about 8-10 seconds of no active button shifting, and sometimes holds the manual longer when taking turns (like an offramp) at speed.

Default yeah any codings you can provide so we can compare

Likewise when my obd-tool shows up i'll post the same. I bet our computers share alot more than we think.

Obviously UWE thought disabling the shifter was the coding when in fact it enables tip mode in drive which was documented in the 2.7T..

I bet theres more info that can be cross-platform if folks care to hash it out

thanks man!

If we could get any codings you can jot down to help us get that "tip on demand and back to drive in 8 seconds" that would rock.

Default I have a 3.0L....I didn't let the tranny stay in TIp mode for very long before I forced it back into

D mode. I can try later this week and see if it goes back.

So old tip strategy won't let it kick down, but rather stay in the current gear when tiping-in at higher speeds?

Default yeah for us 1.8T folks that means instead of missing a turbo spool torque spike we might get some

more fun out of tiptronic.

you haven't seen how bad the tcu is till you've driven a stage 1+ tiptronic
