CVT problem
The CVT transmission on my 2003 cab 1.8T is shut according to Audi Service Dept. in Livermore, CA.
I wasn't the original owner, the car was bought in '06 Dec with 50250 mile in the odometer. It now has 57k miles. Audi America would not help since I wasn't the original owner. Cost for the repair is about $8500. I really enjoy driving Audi's, I currently own '01 S4 6speed with 140k miles (still have the original turbos)and '03 cab with CVT. Is this how Audi support there products? Even if I was the second owner on this car, the quality should not change and the support should be the same as the original owner.
Is there anything else I can do to save on the cost of the repair?

there are a few things to try...
First...its assumed you din't buy the car as a CPO..you should confirm this.
2nd. Did you get the history of the car from an Audi shop?..repair and maint. history.
3rd. On the bet is is not a CPO car, where/who did you buy it from?
In the end, it comes down to a properly written and politly worded letter to the CEO of Audi. Sent FED EX or UPS RED. List the reasons you bought the car,and the cars history as you know it. Site the prevelance of problems you learned after the purchase with the CVT. And state..politly what you want Audi to do.
If all else fails..get out of this dealership and find a local shop who is familiar with the CVT check the CAL forums on Audi World

Re: CVT problem
Really sorry to hear that...
I had mine for 3 months and flipped it out immediately after I learned how expensive it could be. Luckily, I sold it for the same price I paid.
The problem is that it is a sealed, closed design and can't be rebuilt or fixed.
An Audi technician actually told me that the CVT issue was a "dirty secret" and he has seen way too many problems with that transmission.
I think it's reprehensible that Audi knows about this flaw and won't do anything to mitigate the problem - that kind of repair should not be almost half the value of a car just out of warranty.
Hopefully you can find a used one - good luck
