World of Speed at Bonneville
This week was the World of Speed at the Bonneville Salt Flats. We had a great day on Thursday until the rains came on Thursday night. The Salt was in the best condition it had been in the 6 years we've been participating!
A major storm came in overnight Thursday night and the whole course was under water - Event over. Carol (my wife) and I had to get a ride out to the pits to pick up our Touareg and clean up - the water was too deep to drive the Audi through. Check out the pics below to see the difference between Thursday and Friday.
Thursday Pits

Pits this morning (Friday). Yes, that's water as far as you can see across the flats.

Water just off the access road 5-6 inches deep. Luckily the Touareg is designed for deep water. It was like this for over a mile between the access road and the pits.

Glamour shot. This was dry salt on Thursday.

The Audi ran extremely strong - very comparable to a chipped B5 S4 that I ran out there in 2001. You're looking at the only A4 ever to make the 130 Club at Bonneville. The only other Audis in the 130 Club are S4s. Needless to say, the APR K04 kit is awesome!
I'll be getting the article up about the event in the next few days. Watch the main page of Audiworld.com for it and more pictures.

Nice pics...
I honestly do not know much about top speeds... but is 130 that fast? Bear with me, I am spoiled by a Stage III S4 and never drive over 120, but...
But by how quickly I get to 120 (in the S4), 130 seems easy to attain. Am I wrong?
What is the top speed of a stock A4? I thought it was over 130...
Would running to or little over 130 on a local highway in my chipped A4 would mean anything? (Assume no traffic.)

Might make you a 130 club member
Here's the original article that John wrote back in 2000 on that very subject:<ul><li><a href="https://www.audiworld.com/news/00/130club/index.html">130 Club</a></li></ul>

130 club
The 130 Club is measuring your performance on the Salt Flats in the Standing Mile. Many people have gone 130 before, but that's on the freeway over several miles. The Standing Mile is a standing start and speed is measured at the 1 mile mark. You have to do it 2 times in the same day over 130 to qualify. Acceleration and traction are key.
A stage 3 S4 would make it as I did in 2001 with my S4. Neil McGarry's Stage 3 S4 made it this year with an average on his 2 runs of around 138 mph.
Hopefully that helps clear up what the 130 Club is.
