According to some of my (much younger) gamer friends, WOOT, or more commonly, w00t, stands for "we pwn3d (owned) the other team". Usually after winning a team game like Unreal Tournament or Everquest. Eventually people took it to mean "woohoo". The underlying meaning is still the same as how 'Bahn Burner had described. Just want to give it some background.
