Climate Control Grief Continued 97 2.8
Ok, so my problems with the climate control & external tempreture system continue. Apparently the car is generating a fault code DTC 01206 027 which is a Ignition Time Period Signal Off, Incorrect Signal. But my local mechanic doesn't have the Audi manual which describes the problem, does anybody have any clue how this fault code relates to a climate control problem and how to repair same? I would like to avoid replacing the climate control computer if possible.

Does your car exhibit any other unusual changes?
Ignition Time Period signal off is probably a bus message that the climate control head receives that tells it how long the car has been off. This message is important for updating your OAT display in the dash, also for determining if your blowers should come up immediately, and possibly other things.
If the climate control doesn't know how long the vehicle has been off, it's not that big of a deal. If you can live with the strange startup things that your climate control does, then I wouldn't worry about it (from a climate control standpoint).
Now, other modules on your car may need to know this message. There may be safety system implications(probably not).
I would assume that the ECU is the module that sends out that signal. If you don't see any other DTCs on other modules with this same description, then the Climate control may be the only one who uses it (but then again, not all that use the signal are going to set DTCs).
The other possibility, is that this is the signal that tells the Climate control how long the ignition has been on. This would also make your climate control do some funny things soon after turning ignition on (blowers ramping up).
I work on the climate control logic for newer cars, and these Audi's used our old logic. I've been working on digging it up, but unfortunately I think all the work was done on hard copy (due to the engineer being old-school....he retired soon after finishing the logic for this climate control).
Let me know if you find out anything. I am can help you diagnose this issue.
