Default Cup Holder, how to fix? See picture

My son's Audi A4 Platform B6 2004 Cabriolet Convertible Quattro 3.0, his first car, and my first Audi ownership.

The cup holder broke, snapped off as shown. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how to remove the old one to replace it. I google'd everywhere, one DIY was close but the TRIM removal just above the cup was much different looking than this one. I don't want to brute force anything yet.

Any Hints from you guys would be super appreciated! How do we replace this cup holder? How to remove that trim? Thanks.

Thanks Louis, HUGE help with those pics, gave me the guts to pry as shown! And it worked!

Here's my pic of the Storage trim piece on its way out, the two tabs clearly visible.

There are two related part numbers for this Storage trim part.
  1. 8H0 857 058 D USA is the non-opening version. Why Audi did this I don't know, since the part seems fully functional except for the addition of little PINS effectively making the part non-opening.
  2. 8H0 857 058 E 5PR is the one that pops open.

Default If you remove the pins then the "non-opening" will open?

My sister's 04 cabriolet doesn't open either? Do we have to buy the E 5PR one or we can modify the D? It would be nice if it can open.

Thanks,

Louis

I'd pull the D out, make the Mod by pulling out the 2 pins with a needle nose plyer, and see if you like how it's works. I think there's a spring or two missing so more manual open/close needed. Or just buy the E 5PR.

Default 2 pins will let you to open the front plate?

To access the box? Does it flip down when you drive or it will stay in place with a latch or something?

Thanks,

Louis

The front of box opens out (maybe about 1/2 inch) & then up (maybe about 1 inch). Since there's no spring it does not remain open unless you hold on to it.

I am not sure about when closed, especially if it will stay in closed position without rattling. I haven't yet reinstalled it as I'm waiting on the Cup Holder new part to arrive, which is why I removed the box in the 1st place. If it does rattle too much I'll just seal it shut somehow, perhaps by putting back the 2 pins, or maybe I'll just buy 2.8H0 857 058 E 5PR is the one that pops open.
