Expensive before ... and after
According to Autoblog, Consumer Reports has reported the 10 most expensive car brands to maintain over 10 years. Doesn't surprise me that Audi is on that list.
.
.
10 car brands most expensive to maintain over 10 years:
- Land Rover: $19,250
- Porsche: $14,090
- Mercedes-Benz $10,525
- Audi $9,890
- BMW: $9,500
- Volvo: $9,285
- Infiniti: $8,500
- Acura: $7,800
- Mini: $7,625
- Subaru: $7,200

Last year I decided that I love my 2017 A4 and don't see a future Audi that interests me. So I bought an extended warranty. I've had them before and they were a waste of money for me.
Not this car in these days of high labor and parts.
2 weeks ago my AC compressor quit working. $1500 plus $950 labor! That alone payed for 3/4 of it.
I only have 63000 miles on it and have had the following fixed:
Gas tank
Front wheel bearings
thermostat/water pump
AC condenser
Most of that was under warranty but if you add it all up it's probably $10-12K

The positions of Acura and Infiniti on the list are fine considering they are the more luxurious versions of Honda and Nissan. Lexus has a similar position compared to Toyota and is the 12th most expensive. What's really shocking on this list is Tesla being the least expensive car brand to own. Full list below.

I got my 2017 A4 PP in May 2016 and now have 125k miles on it. I didn't need to do anything to it other than standard maintenance and brakes until it hit 120k, then $8k for:
New turbo
New front bushings
New water pump and thermostat
New PCV valve
Rear shocks
All this was done at an indy shop specializing in German cars.
That was a pretty big hit, but, overall, I'm pleased with how the car has treated me. Hopefully, I can now get it to 200k.
