Why do you think Audi chose those tires for the a4? To save some pesos?

Probably. They use them on the A3 and A6 too. However, not many cars come with good tires from the factory anyway.

Hmmn, my 2014 Q5 had what I thought were pretty good tires - I'm forgetting which ones though. Continental? Curious, where are the Pirelli's lacking in everyday, but "spirited" driving? How about in rain?

They are fine for everyday driving and do well in the rain too. Their limit is just on the low side. The Continental crosscontacts on the Q5 are probably the best Q5 tire besides the summer ones.

And the "low side" is about how fast? Or were my Q5 Eagle's? Sorry, what are "crosscontacts?"

Low side as in how much speed you feel comfortable carrying in a turn.

The Eagles on the Q5 are Good Year. Crosscontacts are just a type of tire made by Continental.

Surprised you cooked the brakes, the only real hard braking zone at LRP is turn 1.
Did you shut traction control off? That really does a job on the brakes.....

I'd believe these brakes are not up to it on the road course. Totally fine for the street.

The Hankook Ventus S1 Evo2 summer tires that come with the 19s are significantly better than the all seasons in terms of handling. They are good enough for anything that you'd be willing to attempt on the street. I imagine they'd be pretty good on the track too.
