I opened the hood of my new '11 A4 to add some washer fluid and just drool a bit. When I noticed 4 spots of white crusty powder on some pins/posts. At first I thought it was oxidation like you see on battery posts, but wondering if it is just dried salt draining from the hood. When I touched one it broke apart and came off and the paint underneath looked fine. Has anyone else seen this. I really don't want to stop at the dealer for this.

Mine is new also and I went out to take a look. I have just a trace of the white stuff around those clips. The clips are holding a cable of some sort that runs along the top of the wheel well and are just pushed up into the holes. You can easily feel it. No idea what the white stuff is though.

It is road salt. It is normal. Just make sure you give your car a good washing once winter is over.

mine looks exactly like yours and i just assumed it is salt

I'll just go with road salt for now and keep an eye on it after winter is done.
