I am not an Audi owner yet, but I plan on getting a new A4 sometime this year. Doesn't all new Audi's come with Mobil 1 0w-40 from the factory??? If this is the case than that is all I would use.

Not sure what the factory fill is for the Audi's now - would like to know -- the oil filler cap has Castrol printed right on it (probably a marketing thing).
I did a search for the Part# they used for my 5k service and found this post :

which suggests it is Pentosin 5W-40 synthetic and is the factory fill. But that post was back in '07
Anyone know better/different?

Audis OIL CAP (at least mine a B8 2009 2.0) says CASTROL (SYNTECH) is the oil Audi recommends -- same deal on my wife's 2008 BMW X3 3.0si. Mobil one, I would imagine would be fine so long as it meets the standard minimum requirements (it's in the manual) for any oil you may use.
I use Castrol and keep a quart in my trunk just in case.
I do get the oil changed at the dealer and that is what they use, too.
