Default Rough Idle, Sputter, Die...

So...I have run into an issue with my 2010 Audi A4. She's at ~105k miles and last fall developed some idling issues (throwing error code P2178). Basically, it will turn over, sputter for five to ten seconds, and die. It just started to do this, but a week ago it did idle roughly at a light for a few seconds, before returning to normal and running fine for a week, before deciding it doesn't want to move. I replaced sparks and ignition coils and neither helped.

Some history. Had issues in November of last year, as well. At the time, I replaced the PCV Valve Engine Crankcase Vent.
Spoiler

that did solve the issue.

Any thoughts on how to pinpoint the issue?? Many thanks in advance!

P2178, too rich at idle. Just a quick google search and other instances turned out to be injectors or high pressure fuel pump, both not uncommon failure points for this engine. I don't know how you'd isolate or confirm injectors vs HPFP short of replacing them and seeing, or what other possibilities need to be considered.
So the P2178 is now or 8 months ago? If not now, what are the DTCs now?

That's the code now. Should also note that it has an oil consumption issue...might that make the fuel injectors more likely than the HPFP ... or vice versa?

Oil consumption is its own whole world of pain on this motor. But I myself don't think it points out one vs the other on this issue.

Replaced the HPFP and, interestingly, it helped but didn't fully resolve the issue. The car still sputters a bit, but doesn't outright die. Think injectors next? Someone else also said maybe O2 sensor?

I'm betting it's the low pressure pump in the tank I had the same issue a while back HPFP was fine checked pressures with vag com and confirmed orered new pump, replaced and running like new.

I had actually replaced that pump about 60k miles ago. Do they die that frequently?

Aftermarket doesnt last as long as OEM 60k sounds about right usually it has hard starts beore complete failure, but look at the vag com to diagnose just guessing and going off of what people say on here is a rough guess not absolute so you'll end up replacing something that might not solve the problem and continue shelling out money on guesses. Just my .02

Good observation on the aftermarket factor, Kurt.
I'm a very recent first time A4 buyer, so pardon my ignorance... what is "the vag com"?
