When I started modding European cars, I was shocked by how expensive it was. I tried to cheap out on a lot of things to make it fit my budget and realized very quickly that I should have just saved up and done things right the first time. For example, you can buy springs to lower your car for a few hundred bucks or you can buy a coilover kit for $1k+. The difference is, your stock shocks were not intended to work well with shorter stiffer aftermarket springs and will result in poor ride quality and/or blown shocks that will need to be replaced eventually, which will end up costing just as much or more than if you bought a matched spring/shock combo from the beginning. Same goes with cheap wheels and other replica parts that have no business on your car.
