California Owners....I got a question

Are you guys driving with a front license plate? I'm getting my front panel switch at the dealer as I purchased it with the chrome tipped front panel(much nicer). I just don't want to give the cops any reason to pull me over/give me a ticket. I was just wondering what other Cali Drivers did. I guess this applies to all states that require a front plate.

You roll the dice without it, that's basically all there is to say.
Here in Colorado, I don't think a Cop will routinely pull you over for not having it. But if it is noticed while you are parked somewhere, or you get pulled over for something else, you can probably expect a ticket.
That said, I ordered mine without the plate holder and with the front filler panel (6W9). If it gets to be an issue, the dealership said I could swap it out, as they have a ton laying around. If I want BOTH so *I* can swap them out, I have to pay the $125 (or whatever) charge for the extra panel.

A4's got a plate only b/c wife drives it and she's conformist like that. but i haven't had a front
plate on my own DDs since '01 (been in CA since '03) and have never been ticketed. and that includes illegal (barely) tint also, fwiw. YMMV.
I hope I didn't just jinx myself... :-D

it's illegal, you scofflaw!!
yes, I'm now plateless 9 yr w/o ticket. It's all luck.
But, with a new car you may have a couple years of grace where the police figure the car may be brand new. Keep that reg paperwork on the lower front window for even better odds.
crazy man you,
DD

Re: You roll the dice without it, that's basically all there is to say.
I drove my A8 around without a plate for 3 years before my lease expired, since then I've been driving my "wife's" XK convertible without a plate, and we're going on 3 years without even a sideways glance from the powers-that-be. I am in North San Diego, if this helps.
I just keep the plate in the trunk or glove-box, and my plan if questioned is to say i'm waiting for the front-holder to come in from the dealer. Never had to find out if that works....

hmmm, good idea, maybe I'll call the dealer and tell them to forget it. It looks so much better with the current panel.

I had one on my B7 and no plate on my B6 for a total of 6 years. No tickets.........................
I even got a few tickets for other things but they never added that infraction on.

Same here, never used a front plate and never will...
I keep the plate in the car and would also say it's a new car and I'm waiting for the holder. If I ever got a fix-it, I'd zip tie the plate to the lower portion of the grille and get it signed off, though the cop I know wouldn't even make me go that far. That being said, I've heard that in some places people are getting ticketed while parked on city streets.

It's a gamble.
I look at it this way... anything that would make a cop more likely to pull you over is something I want to avoid. I've always had one on and I believe it's paid off over the years in L.A. Plus it's good protection against everyone trying to parallel park. People park by "touch" which would ruin the filler. The plate acts as some protection for those taps.

I went 2 years on my B7 without a front plate and had no issues
There are certain places where you will get nailed for not having a front plate. Parking lots at LAX are a prime target. I've seen cops waiting at the exit of parking lots and pulling people over. I used to take our other car whenever I needed to drop off or pick-up anyone at LAX.
