BMW 335i vs A4

I have had several bmw's and 1 Audi. I had a 323i (rwd) a 325i (rwd) and an X3(awd) I must say that my A6 felt better in the snow than any of these. Rear drive bimmers are not fun in the snow, even with snow tires, which are mandatory if you live where there is lots of snow. You really cannot drive more than 1 winter with all seasons here in Toronto.
I just ordered my 2010 meteor Grey A4 that I am picking up on Friday, I have driven the 335xi and it it is stinking fast, considerably faster than the A4 2.0, it may only be a second from 0-60, but it feels way faster. A bigger issue for me with the BMW is that the BMW interiors have become plasticky and not nearly as nice as the Audi interiors
I am looking to picking up my car on Friday, and posting here, instead of over at the A6 C5 forum!
Cheers

I agree with you, I absolutely love that drivetrain. I drove one for awhile outside of London and I so enjoyed how much thrust it had. It was great to be able to zip around town and blast around others in traffic so effortlessly and without the need for gear changes the petrol version does.

Well, today I officially gave up on Audi bringing the A4 TDI here, and bought at BMW 335d. We've had three Audi's in the last 10 years, and have loved them. Now it's time for a new chapter.
Next task: Buy an extra set of wheels and snow tires. This winter should be interesting.

Audi will most likey use the 2.0 diesel they put in the Jetta. It is a real dog. The Jetta does 0 to 60 in 8.5 sec. The much larger 335d gets around the same mpg's but is fast as heck. The 335D is weighted so 50% of the weight is on both wheels. A few bags of play sand in the trunk before a snow storm and snow tires and you'll be fine. I paid extra not to get Quattro. The CVT shifted quicker and because of the loss of weight the CVT A4 feels much faster. In NY we usually don't get much snow on Long Island but it is different each year.

I drove the Jetta TDI, and found the power adequate but not too exciting. The mushy brakes and the OK, but not great handling took that car off my list. It does get better mileage overall than the BMW 335, though. It is also around half the cost.

I have an 08 335i and test drove a 2010 A4 with Quattro last week. Even though there is a noticeable power difference, I think you'll be pleased with the power of the A4. I was surprised how responsive it was. I can also say that it was the first time that I got to drive that engine with a manual which made a world of difference to me in the "seat of the pants" category. The 6speed tiptronic just felt to sluggish to me. I have not test driven the new 8-speeds so I can't comment on those....Interior, imo, is hands down better than BMW.

I loved everything about the two 335s I owned except for the overheating problems I had with the first one (punted it after 6k miles) and the 3 fuel pumps that failed in my second one. My '98 528i, both 2003 M3s and 2006 530i were all flawless but both 335s were lemons. It finally gave me a good excuse to try Audi. I have no regrets.

If you are comparing the cars on 0-60 speed, the 335 is going to be faster than the Audi.
Having said that, I've owned a BMW 335 and now own a 2011 A4. The A4 in fit and finish is what the BMW wants to be. Although, I would say they both feel like they handle near the same as each other, the BMW's interior and electronic nav system is **** poor. I felt like I was driving an old man's car the whole time I had it. It is great looking on the outside, boring on the inside.
The A4 delivers on both external and interal looks. However, compared to the Caddy CTS I just stopped driving, I miss the A/C seats and Tivo like radio control that the CTS had. Cooled/Vented seats are something you really use a lot in Georgia.... No car that I have found is Perfect, but the Audi A4 is close.
my 2 cents.
