Thanks for the input. I talked to my service advisor just a few moments ago, and he said that he has convinced his manager to approve an "oil consumption test," which normally costs $1300 for customers out of warranty, but due to my documented history of complaining about the oil consumption, they will make an "exception" at no cost. He claims that until about a year ago, Audi continued to maintain that excessive oil consumption was normal. Anyway, it will take "5 or 6 hours" to run part one of the test today and tomorrow, and then I will bring the car back after 650 miles so they can measure how much oil I've burned.

This car is the tenth I've owned in my life (Plymouth, Chevys (including a Camaro Z-28 350 h.p. V-8 turbo), Ford, Pontiac, Toyotas and Dodge). Every single one of those cars has given me less worry than the Audi. Funny you should mention Toyotas, I've owned two Celicas, and I still own one of them that I've passed along to my nephew -- it is a 2000 GTS model with more than 140,000 miles on it. Audi should be ashamed of itself.

Great news you got it fixed for free!!!! It's sad you had to argue so much to get the problem detected. Audi should really be notified of this as they are trying to clean up their act at dealerships because it is now a known sore point in their owner's experience with owning the vehicles. Apparently they are having problems getting Audi customers to return to buy another Audi when it is time for a new car. This is probably a huge reason why.
