Default 2.0t oil consumption question?

I am considering to buy 2011 2.0t Q5 and I am concerned a bit by some reports on Q5 forum about extensive 2.0t oil consumption. I went here since I believe Q5 shares the same engine with A4 but could not find any threads about oil consumption. Do indeed Q5 and A4 have the same 2.0t? Does A4 2.0t has the same " problem/feature" of extensive oil consumption? I also worry a bit how reliable turbo is in long run? Thanks.

I have a 2011 A5 2.0T.

My car has 4,500 miles right now and the MMI shows the oil level at 60% which means the engine had consumed about 0.4 quarts of oil.

If the consumption stays at this level, it should be about 1 quart of extra oil between oil changes which I think is pretty reasonable for a turbocharged engine.

Default 2009 2.0t

I just went in for my 25,000 scheduled maint. Since my 15,000 mile maint, I have added 4 extra quarts of oil. Seems like about every 2000 miles, the low oil warning light comes on. When I told the dealer, they said that 2000 is within the normal range. Audi has set the max limit at 1200. So if you are getting your warning light sooner than 1200 mile intervals, we have a problem. Just some info for you. However, the dealer told me just to come in and they will top off when ever i need (for free). They know it consumes oil. Hopefully truth in engineering will engineer a fix.

Is that a standard thing? I'm tempted to ask my dealer to top off mine for free

My '08 A4 2.0T used a quart about every 2,500 miles from brand new until I got rid of it at 45,000 miles. My '10 A4 2.0T is just about to go in for the 5,000 mile service and has not needed to be topped off yet, although it is down a little from full. That's nice that the dealer offers to top it off, but since it takes my local dealer 2-2.5 hours to do an oil change, I don't have 30-45 minutes to kill to have them top it off, so I do it myself and keep a bottle of oil in the trunk.

Default Does it depend on break-in or luck?

I had two different B5 A4 1.8T cars (still have one), and neither usually required oil to be added. I mean, if I topped it up religiously it might take 1/2 quart per 5k miles under the harshest driving (entire tanks of gas spent in short trips where the car barely warms up), but after getting comfortable with the car I usually just let it stretch between changes.

A friend had another from the same year and it drank oil at 3-5 times that rate...

I always wondered if it has something to do with how the car is treated during its break-in period, or how it is driven daily, or just luck of the draw.

+1 to everyone. I go through a quart every 3000 miles. I pull into the dealer and they top it off on the spot with no charge. Then I have them wash it too...

I've got a 2011 A4 2.0T with 2500 miles on it. Right now my MMI dipstick is still reading full.

Mine started to go down at 2100 miles. I have 2800 miles on it and it's two steps below full. I guess there are 6-7 steps in total.
