Default 1K depreciation in two years?

I recently traded in my 2011 Avant for an Allroad (leases). I had bought the Avant in June 2011 for a negotiated price of $36xxx. I just turned it in with 19600 miles...the dealer is now listing it at $35,991.

The original MSRP was around $39500 (premium, homelink, bluetooth, heated seats, ipod...in Audi terms, stripped).

The KBB was around 30K.

How is it possible that someone would buy a two year old car for only 10% off original MSRP? I got my brand new Allroad for 12% discount...

Thanks.

Won't happen. That's just the dealer asking price and they're leaving lots of room for negotiation on a used car. I'd bet it goes for well under $30K in the end.

I traded in my 2011 A4 quattro that I paid $33,300 new, and they are asking $29,000 and it has 38k miles. The craziest thing is its not even certified, its been in a minor accident, and i had tons of problems. Bottom line, buyer beware!

If a buyer pays the full used car asking price from a dealer w/o negotiating it down, I'd like to talk with them. I have a bridge to sell...

I imagine the dealer is hoping someone will - better for them.

Before I got my A4, I was looking at the 328 - noone had a 6MT available to test, but carmax has a 1 year old with 15k miles - absolutely base, zero options (including the paint). Carmax wanted about $500 more than the dealer invoice of a brand new one with 15k less miles and 1 year more warranty - and BMW was running 0.9% financing at the time. It sold the same week I noticed they had it. Crazy.

The used car market is crazy, and people are paying lots of money for used cars.

I just saw a used 2011 2.0 q5 from carmax. Base model that was barely over 39k new and not even a premium plus.

They still wanted 31,900 "no haggle" for it with over 37k miles.
