Upcoming Car & Driver Comparison...A4 ranks 5th
I just saw a post on the TL website...(Yes, after owning a '96 A4, '98A4 Avant & '02 allroad I now have an '04 TL 6MT but I am considering an '06 A4 Avant 3.2 6MT) In the October C&D comparison an A4 3.2 with tip finishes 5th behind the TL, G35, IS350 & 330i. The 330 wins the comparison despite numerous mechanical problems. Too bad a 3.2 6MT A4 wasn't available to compete.

So again it's not really an apple to apple comparison
Blame Audi's brilliant marketing strategy for not bringing over the 3.2 6MT right off the start and losing possible customers to other brands.

Not really, Audi A4 just no longer up to the task. Need the S4
Not really. Read the review. The MT would not have changed much. The Lexus IS350 ONLY has an auto-tranny (and a ****ty one at that) despite how much the Lexus community kicks and screams, has intrusive VDIM that you can't shut off and it still placed second by ONE point.
So I don't think that a manual tranny would have pushed audi any higher. It is just out-classed. Again, read the review and draw your own conclusions.

Every manufacturer looses sales to another one at a certain point
BMW might have lost a sale when i bought the A4 cause the new 3 series wasnt available in AWD yet, Audi loses some to BMW cause they didnt had the 3.2 manual and so on...

Does it matter?
I don't understand this childish "Audi is better than your brand X" thing. Who cares what reviews say what? Who cares what test results bear what? If you are happy, why does it matter? If you are not happy, you should have gotten something else. It's such a childish thing to do, in my opinion.

So u r willing to buy a worse car just to get AWD? Go get an SUV then.
Apparently AWD didn't matter too much in the tested conditions because the Audi still ended up 5th. If anything, the AWD should have been a positive but it wasn't. It just lost out in most of the other categories. No single category won or lost the battle for the audi... It was the car as a whole that lost. Take a look at the scoring.
