Scheduled 75K Maintenance and Timing Belt Replacement
I have 77K on my 2006 A4 2.0T, which means I am due for 75K mile service and timing belt replacement. The dealer here charges $500 for the service and $2000 for the timing belt replacement. I was wondering if it makes more sense to get the service and timing belt replacement done at an independent shop and what the reasonable costs should be. Thank you for any input you can offer.

The new timing belt replacement recommendation is 110,000 miles
I received a maintenance supplement (281.2006Maint.insert2.94) from Audi at least a year ago that modified the timing belt replacement schedule for the 2006 2.0T engine. This is a page that fits into my maintenance manual. The new recommended schedule for timing replacement is at 110,000 miles. Also, if you look up the maintenance schedule on the Bentley website that publishes the Audi service manuals the timing belt replacement mileage has been updated to 110,000.

I would only do it at a dealer, if I had a choice. That being said $2000 is a bit pricey for the dealer to be charging for a timing belt, and another $500 for the service. Tell them you'll do it all for $2100. No dealer or tech is turning away gravy like this in this economy, and you get the added security of real Audi parts and techs.
