Default Normal for 2.0T to sound almost like a diesel at idle?

I've read and heard both ways - that it's normal or that it could be something is wrong.

I've previously only driven Hondas and they're very quiet at idle; so, I may just think the Audi is loud because of the comparison.

Skip to 2:30 - this is exactly how my car sounds:

Normal?

I'm sure its normal. I have a 2005.5 and my friend has a 2006 2.0T and they both sound like a diesel at idle. The 2005 has 70k and the 2006 has 30k. They both sounded like this since they were new. Hope this helps.

Default 2.0t FSI

The noise you hear is the injectors. It take 65 volts to open the injectors. That voltage is needed to overcome the compression in the cylinder. your engine injects fuel into the combustion chamber not the intake manifold. Search direct injection in GOOGLE to get a better discription. If the noise is unsettleing(and your still under warranty) bring it into a shop and have them look at it. Better safe than sorry.

Default All gasoline direct injected engines sound like this at idle.

It's 100% normal.

Audi's B7 2.0T is just a bit louder in this regard than some newer gasoline DI engines.

It was first, afterall.

You guys are awesome. Thanks for the info.

I had a feeling it was normal since the idle is smooth and especially the acceleration.

The little noise at idle is definitely worth it given how amazing this car drives. Thanks, again, for the reassurance!

HAHA all my friends with their sti's and wrx's laugh at how low my engine's idle is! but the noise you hear is your injectors they use 65 volts to open the injectors and that overcomes the compression in the cylinder. but when i first got my car i felt the same way you did. ENJOY IT!

Diesels sound the same as the 2.0T A4 as they are also ultra high fuel pressure and direct injection.
