Default A little DIY bodywork & paint on my car

About a month or so ago that I ran over something on the freeway one night not knowing what it was, but it messed up rear door cap, under side of the front bumper, and door blade pretty good. Rather than spending $52 for a brand new cap from the dealership (they don't come painted), I just popped mine off, cleaned it up and filled in the dents and sanded it smooth, primered it, painted it (from PaintScratch.com), cleared it and color-sanded it and buffed it and popped it back on. Looks as good as new. Since I was able to buff out most of the scuff marks underneath the front bumper, I just need to pop off the door blade now and fix that since touch up paint really isn't covering it up.

The initial damage:

Filled it in with some plastic hardener and sanded it smooth after it dried & cured.

First couple of base coats sprayed on (more to follow) but the PaintScratch Quartz Gray color matched pretty good.

About 5 good coats of clear, then color-sanded & buffed. Meguiars diamond cut buffing compound and finishing polish worked out great.

Back on the car, looks almost like nothing ever happenned.

looks like the blade saved the body from even further damage.

Default Deep enough to have taken the paint off

That's why you see the black bare piece underneath. I tried touch up paint on that but it's too deep for it to come out looking good so I'll just sand down that area to smooth it all out and repaint it.

Default "looks almost like nothing ever happenned." remove the word "almost"

because that's a good job you did there. I guess the door blade repair is next? Is that easily removed to be repaired?

Default Strong work Steve

Out of curiousity, how do you like going back to the RS6 rims? Any regrets over selling the RS4 reps?

Default No regrets...

With the spacers I have on the car, and how much it's lowered, I kind of like the 5-spoke look better on my car than the RS4 reps. Mostly because I think they are a tad bit played out now and after seeing it on my car everyday for the past 10 months, it kind of grew old on me. Also the S-Line wheels are a lighter silver color and I think it offsets the Quartz Gray better. What I would really like are some 19" RS6 reps (same as the S-Line wheels now but just bigger) but I really don't want to dump more money into my car since I have 10 months left on the lease.

Default The RS6 rims are great

and have really grown on me since my initial purchase of the S-line package. I agree that the silver is just perfect...and looks pretty good with Dolphin. I wish we had the option for the 19" OEM RS6's from the get-go

I take it that you may be considering the 335i? If so, pretty good choice.

Default no 335i...

but I've been talking to the BMW West Coast division manager (oversee's the So Cal dealerships, family member of a friend) so I might consider the E92 M3 when it's available next year when my lease expires. Either that or I've also considered the AMG C63 if that ever comes out in time. Regardless, I have until next Sept when my lease expires so anything can happen in the next 6-10 months.

If I stick with Audi, it'll definetely be a V8 (S4 or possibly RS4, if I'm in the mood). I have an itchin for some torque.... screw fuel economy =P
