Default Financing my lease but they want to certify?

I called my dealer wanting to finance my leased 2008 Audi A4 from them as I made my last payment last month. They said I need to bring the car in for Audi Certification. My question is what exactly is this? If I am opting to buy the car why do they go through this process? Thanks in advance for the help.

Guesing here, but could they want to CPO it for you? That way you get additional warranty (up 50k more miles don't remeber the number of years).

This sounds right, but they're definitely going to charge you for it. CPO costs the dealer about $1250 per car (last I heard), and they tack about $2000 onto the price of the car. You probably don't need to have it certified, but an extended warranty would be nice. Make sure you find out if it's going to cost you anything, and get everything in writing. It sounds a little shady that they are telling you to bring it in for certification instead of "offering" it to you as an option. Either way, be careful that you don't get charged for something you didn't want.
