Default Brakes

I have 2006 A4 FWD. The brake light came on and therefore the brakes need to be checked and I suspect the pads and rotors will have to be changed.

Any advice on pros and cons of using the dealer, using a place like Midas or going to a small repair shop that specializes in Audi's. I know the costs will vary but what about the quality of the brakes, squeeling, etc. I really like the brakes on the A$ - very light and responsive - and I'd like them to stay that way.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Phil

It really shouldnt matter where you go as long as you tell them you want the same pads/rotors that you currently have installed. Pads are pads and theres nothing special the dealer or a specialist will know that an average shop wont know.

Unless you are getting vibration while stopping I would not be concerned about the rotors. As long as the pads have not gone to the metal backer plates it should just be a simple pad change. It also appears that the OEM pads are very soft due to the large amount of dust they produce. This also minimizes the potential of squeal.Going with a ceramic pad will reduce the dust but would eventually wear the rotors. I would stay with OEM and only replace the pads. I never turn down rotors unless they are warped or scored. If they look good and are within spec then just replace the pads. The warning light is telling you that you are at minimum pad thickness and time to replace pads.
