Default A4 broken timing belt at 59k ??!!

I have a 2008 A4 with 59k. Dealer replaced pistons and rings 3k miles ago to fix oil consumption issue. Claims they inspected timing belt and was fine, no wear cracking or fraying. Now the belt just snapped in half and after using boroscope dealer can find no reason why it broke. Pistons fine but engine valves are bent = major damage. So far dealer not covering it. Any thoughts on how a good condition timing belt just snaps 3k mi later??!!

What's the ownership history? If it was maintained properly, historically that is, take the situation to AoA. They should give you some assistance.

Very well maintained vehicle. I bought it at 36k from a non-Audi dealer but it had CPO paperwork from the Audi dealership who traded it so I knew it was properly inspected and supposedly "a good car". Had oil consumption issue right away. Audi refused to fix until warranty was up, then did the piston ring replacement. Contacted AoA so far not willing to provide assistance "due to age and mileage of vehicle". It has 59k!!!! Looking for further recourse...

That's sketchy how they didn't want to replace the piston rings in warranty!? They probably didn't want to assume any potential repair costs such as the one you're going through right now. After a major overhaul like new piston rings it would be a wise thing to use a new timing belt just because the tensions might be slightly different from what it was broken into. I wonder if they did.
