We looked at the new Tahoe when we were shopping. It had it. I don't get it

Maybe it is Audi's way of selective cultivating of their customer base. They may not want the "typical Amercan suburbanite" types who go for such features. On the other hand, they're probably willing to take anyone's dollar. For me, I see the utility of such a feature on a high, wide and heavy thing like a Tahoe, but the A4 Avant - no way. What next, a hoist to put the driver in the seat? Or, I guess, why stop there?

Default Might be possible to hack/retrofit...

I was thinking about this. You can use the remote trunk release to "open" the trunk latch. All you need is something to "push" the door open. I had an old ('80)VW Scirocco with "dead" gas cylinders. Not having the cash to buy new, I wrapped a coil spring around the gas cylinder. It was enough to open the door once I unlocked it. In theory, the same thing would apply for the Avant. Might be a bit of work to find the right spring... maybe even stack some belleville's (google on belleville springs) on the existing cylinder.

I might look into this myself.
