How do you get 500 miles on a tank?
Do you drive like grannies on highways only?<ul><li><a href="http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/21786.shtml">http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/21786.shtml</a</li></ul>

Everyone should post their average speed for the tank also. :-)
My 413 miles was at the magic highway cruise speed of 50MPH. (Average trip computer speed for the tank.) There was easily another gallon left so perhaps I could have made it to 440 miles. That was on a tiptronic which argueably gets 3.5% worse highway mileage than the manual.
I'd assume if you had a very light foot with a manual all highway you could eek the other 60 miles out of the tank.

Old fashioned calculating I've done 36.1 mpg.
I've averaged 34.3 on a trip. Intermittent driving mostly. Highway and running through some towns. I usually get a hair under 500 miles to a tank. My commute is a mix.

574 mi... across Kansas
moved from Atlanta to Denver this summer, and while at highway speeds I got excellent gas mileage, my best was 574 on 15.8 gallons... that was coming across west kansas at 75-80mph.

Does mileage improve when the ambient temperature is warmer in the summer months? These days I'm consistently getting at lease low 400s miles on a full tank whereas I get mid to upper 300s in the winter months. I just did the 25k oil change. Don't know if there's anything to do with the improved mileage.

they say the best speed for mpg is right around 70-80mph. also depends on if the highway is uphill or downhill... my best so far is only like 330 mixed driving. i usually have to fill up at 290-300 on my normal commutes to work and other things

My best tank was 456 miles on 14.177 which calculates to 32.165 mpg. Certainly could have done better but road conditions and terrain limited performance. And having two gallons remaining I would have gone further on the tank but I reached my destination
