whats the cheapest way to go about getting a replcement key??

I had the same issue. There was no way to avoid the stealership. I ended up...
just buying the key half of a pod and using an old remote from another audi. Unfortunatly, I couldn't get the remote programmed so I just settled for a spare key for $60 without a working remote. If I ever need to program the remote, I'll just take it back to the dealer. Sucks! But I wasn't going to pay $150 for a figgin key!

Interestingly enough, the dealerships in Europe...
...aren't intent on charging astronomically high prices for parts (read: ripping people off).
I was in Munich for two weeks over the holidays and decided to pick up a replacement folding cup holder, as the Audi Zentrum Hochstrasse was two doors up from my hotel. The total for the part was 27.34 euros (~$37 USD) compared to $88 CDN (~$75 USD) at my local dealership. The cup-holder had to be ordered from the main warehouse in Munich so I was told to come back the next day to pick it up. Upon my return, not only was I presented with the part, but also an R8 book (it's not a brochure, it's an actual hardcover book), a new S4 brochure and an A4 brochure. All this over 27 euros!
The North American dealerships need to take a page from their German counterpart's books - the service and pricing is on a whole different level.
So, if you or anyone you know is traveling to Germany, it's worthwhile to purchase parts over there.

ebay for the key blank and remote (make sure to match codes), local key place to drill the sidewinde
r pattern into the blank, dealership to sync it up to your car (bring in all the keys you have)
