Have a '02 1.8t manual, engine check light has been coming on and the car is stalling, changed all four spark plugs and coil packs thinking that was the problem. Car was fine for a couple of days and now the car is stalling either as I'm coming to a stop or while putting the car in first gear while sitting at the light. No check engine lights coming on but after restarting the car the EPC light came on. Any help or insights would be great. Thanks.

Sounds a little like an engine speed sensor, but that is a guess. Get the codes downloaded at a local Autozone / pep boys or like auto store for free and repost.

Pulled the codes

1. 16395.P0011A Camshaft potion (bank 1 timing over advanced)
2. 16705.P0321 Ignition/ distributor engine speed input circuit G28 range performance
3. 16706.P0322 Ignition/ distributor engine speed input cicuit G28: no signal

2) and 3) are the ESS. Lucky guess. Very simple replacement. I did it at a body shop when they called and said the car wouldn't start and were pushing it around the shop. I knew it was coming and had ordered the part and it happened to show up the day before they called. They looked at me funny when I showed up with parts, instructions, VAGCOM cable, and my laptop with VAGCOM software in hand and 30 minutes later I had the car working. But I bore everyone.
