squeaky chirping sound in front at idle
my 2002 a4 3.0 makes this chirping sound in the front sounds like from the fan. when i turn it on cold it doesn't start squeaking until i drive a while and it starts to warm up. when i sit and rev the engine a little the noise goes away. only squeaks when idle.

Same problem here..mine squeaks when the engine is cold..and after I drove a while and is warming up the squeak stops..somebody told me that might be a bearing..but I also think is some belt squeak, Maybe somebody will help us.

Yeah mine is like the opposite it doesn't start squeaking untill it warns up. Doesn't do it when it's cold. If yours goes away when it's warm its probably a belt serp belt or timing belt idk what the sound is exactly so idk. mine is weird tho because it's starts when it warms up

My audi has 114xxx miles. And the timing belt was done at around 80k. I still drive the car..it works fine, just this noise like a drunk cricket when it's cold. Your problem sounds even stranger..are you sure that the sound goes away when you rev the engine?

I read a lot of threads and I think is my serpentine belt like you said. 2 reasons: the I can hear the sound in the "very" front part of the engine, and second it does look a little wear on it..do you think its gonna be expensive at the shop to change it? Or I will save a lot of money if I will change it by myself?

They should have replaced the serpentine when they did the timing belt. If not and if I remember from doing my timing belt 2.5 years ago, it is simple: a wrench on the tensioner, rotate until you have slack, remove old belt, install new belt, and release wrnech.

Had the same issue with my 02 3.0, had the alternater fail a few months later. Same symptoms at first, chirp that would go away after revving for a little while. I would suggest testing alt. output as a precaution. The belt wear my be from alt. pully beginning to seize.

ok, I don;t like your idea! I will go sometimes next week to check it out. I hope this is not the case, (same car here, 02 3.0) the previous owner told me that he never changed the serp belt, and I don;t see any power loss, or lights flickering. Thanks.
