Default Sports Package and Snow

Hope someone can shed some light on my question (I'm pretty new with this stuff so please bear with me).

I have a 2002 A4 Quattro w/Sports Package and the high performance/summer tires. I am currently in California so I never questioned the tires usage in the environment that I drive. I may be moving to Michigan and am concerned about the snow. Do I just need to get all season tires? Anything else to be concerned about? Also, I can't seem to find all season tires for the sizes that I currently have on my car 235/45R17. When I am looking for all season tires am I suppose to look for tires with those same numbers (235/45R17) or am I suppose to look for tires with different numbers (as you can tell, this is where I have no clue what I am talking about).

Default Re: Sports Package and Snow

I have the sports package and Dunlop 9090 all season. I live in Connecticut and get plenty of snow.
All season tires are or OK when they pull and a sleigh when stopping.
Get winter tires to be safe and keep the summer tires for the Summer.

Default Hmmm

Are you sure about that? The 9090s are high performance summer tires as far as I know. The SP5000s are all season tires...

Default From what I've learned since joining this forum, it's best to get a set of snow tires for winter

weather in areas like Michigan. Just put your summer tires away for the winter. Snow tires are much better on snow and ice than all season tires. Most folks just buy winter tires already mounted on their own wheels (usually 15 or 15 inch).

Go to 'Choose Audiworld Discussion Forum' at the top of this page and select the 'wheels and tires' forum for good info on, for instance, the best snow tires.

The following link is a good primer on tires (tyres):

http://www.orbweb.net/autoshop247/tyre_talk/1_tyre_sizes.html</a

You absolutely need snow tires- don't get all seasons, they're good for nothing. Get 225 snow tires.

Default My all seasons are great!

My Pilot Sport All Seasons do just fine in the snow, at least where I live.

I would say, depending on the type of winters you have where you live, All Seasons are fine.

Default tirerack.com has a bunch of all-season tires in your size, but...

for Michigan, I'd say you need something more heavy-duty, like a set of dedicated winter wheels/tires.

spend the money and get rims that suit your car. You'll have them on from 3-4 months up here.

Default I have the sport suspension also and I've found that dedicated snows are the way to go (m)

I have Dunlop Wintersport M2's on 16" wheels (215/55 - 16) and its a sweet setup. The peace of mind, safety and functionality are easily worth the $600-700.
