Default So i started changing my fuel filter and i seem to have run into a problem.

I posted this on the earlier fuel filter thread but thought i could get an answer faster this way.
I started changing my filter and the filter currently on the car only has 3 lines running to it while the new filter has places for 4 lines. Is my car weird or what is going on?

Default Sounds like you have the wrong filter. I'd put back the old one

and try again another day with the same 4FO replacement part.

Default My bentleys states that 3-line and 4-line filters were both used.

The extra lines are return lines.
The 4-line filter is used on the 1.8T
The 3-line and 2-line were used on the 3.0.

I am the blissful owner of a 2-line ECS replacement which I havn't installed because I have the 3-line on my car as well.

IF you find a good source for the 3-line please post it.

Default $21 at Genuineaudiparts.com

Also seems to point to this filter being from a 4.2 (S4?)

<a href="http://www.genuinevwaudiparts.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=getLocator&siteid=214407& chapter=EPA257&appSectionid=1&groupid=1002 0&subgroupid=20099&componentid=60645&m ake=2&model=A4&year=2003&

Default Re: So i started changing my fuel filter and i seem to have run into a problem.

there is an in consistancy in the use of filters at time of manufacturing. My 2004 3.0 does not have the 2 line shown in all internet sites for only $15-20, but has a three line filter that is twice the price. Didn't know until i went to replace it.
