Default please provide me with a little education if you can.. recently bought an 02 b6 1.8

and the third brake light is out. I was told this part number was faulty: 8E0907279E

I have no idea if that's accurate. Can anyone advise if this is likely to fix the issue? the gears on the dash are also all lit once i engage "D". If i start car, engage reverse or neutral, the gear selection display is fine. I've been reading that may be related to a few things: could be the above mentioned part failure with the brake light, could be bad tiptronic gear selector, or could be a faulty tcm.

I don't have access to VAG, does anyone have suggestions?

most likely your multifunction switch going bad on the tranny, but you will need to Vag it to be sure. not sure on the brake deal
