Default used D80s are prolly cheaper sub $500 and much better cameras
d40s and d60s don't autofocus on the cheap 50mm 1.8 which is the best value for the buck lens out there.

Default Are you sure? Why not? My D50 auto focuses the 50mm 1.4 just fine?
What did they change on the D40 and D60?

Default I think because the 40 and 60 don't have a motor in the body, they require lenses to have a motor.
That's a guess, not 100% sure on that.

Ah I c. The 50mm doesn't have an internal focusing system and relies on the motor from the camera.
