Oil change and filters?
I was wondering what oil and filters people use on their Audi's?
I am going to use a K&N oil filter and Castrol GTX high Milage.
Since its summer I was wondering what weight oil to use?

You should use only German oil filters--OEM or Mann or Mahle. I have had experience with US aftermarket filter elements blowing out and clogging the engine oil pressure control valve with the filter paper media. The bad filter was an expensive Mobil One oil filter sold at a chain type auto parts store.

Definitely stick with the OEM or Mann or Mahle oil-filters; these oil-filters have a significantly larger internal media surface-area and properly filter the motor-oil without any blow-by oil flow. The "good" oil-filters are reasonably priced (unless you buy it at the Audi dealership... ;-)

Oil and filter change done already. K&N filter and Castrol GTX High Mileage 5W30.
Already looking for Mann or Mahle oil filters for the next change.
Thanks.
Any thoughts on the K&N high flow air filters?
Cost is $50.+ US and I see the car mags doing reviews on new cars and
stating that the car has K&N air filter.
Car mags are showing performance cars like the R8,911 Turbo, and SLS are
using the K&N air filters but none mention oil filters.
I guess you can't get performance from an oil filter?

x2 on the filters. I couldn't find the analysis link quickly, but the large Bosch filter has the same high quality material and surface area. Also, below is the link from the Audi TSB reagarding the long list of oil that meet the Audi spec. I use Mobil 0w40 full synthetic. I don't see the Castrol you used on the list...

If your going to be doing it yourself save money by buying 5 pack from mjm autohaus which makes ea filter 8 bucks or so.
then jut buy the oil. You need 40 weight for the turbo and make sure it says European blend which is vag approved and keep your receipts in cars of problems.

K&N Air Filter
I was looking at the same thing and asked my independent shop about them. They said that the oil on the air filter will end up sticking to the mass airflow sensor and cause problems. What I have learned in the past with self maintenance is to stick with OEM products to save hassles down the road.

I needed to change the oil so I did. I am going to use a Mann or Mahle oil filter next time. And I now have time to order what I need.
As for K&N Air filter I know people who have them in all Audi types. And
they list them being used in Audi Performance Magazines in cars they test.
I have yet to see any forums saying bad stuf about K&N products.
Thanks
