Hi guys, desperately need some advice on my 2004 Audi A4 1.8 litre turbo as I am having problems with the top radiator hose pressurising so much that you cannot do the cap up properly. And it seems not to be circulating to keep the engine cool as it should have changed the thermostat as thought that was blocked with no change. Any ideas please help me!

What do you mean by "do the cap up properly". You can't screw on the reservoir cap? You have binding when installing the hose? Other?

Is it overheating? I’d do a compression test to see if you are losing compression in cylinders 2 and 3. Do that and report back. If you do have low compression, then the worst case scenario is you have the notorious AMB cracked head common on the B6 forcing exhaust gasses into the coolant and pressurizing the system.

Hi, I mean the cap for the water reservoir tank if screwed on tightly would definitely crack or split whatever weak point it could as it pressurizes so much!

So if that's the case, the engine f*#cked?

Is the car overheating? Do a compression test and post the results. Guessing is just guessing. Diagnostics will lead you to the point where you can fix the problem. If it’s the head, you’d need to find a replacement. Shops would charge around 10-12 hours labor. A head, you’d look for an AWM head or any head from a 1.8T except the AEB. Heads from a MK4 Jetta or Golf work. If you do it yourself, just make sure to reserve a weekend to do it and make sure to have all the parts before you begin.

Never experienced this with the 2 A4's I had / have; one had 225000 miles and was wrecked, the other I still have with 175000 miles and they have the original reservoirs. In my case, the cap goes on with reasonable torque. Maybe you have a mismatched cap and reservoir?
