Default Update: Was fault code P0741. Dealer said not important to fix immediately (m)

Apparently the when the "Torque Converter Clutch Circuit" there isn't much in the way of negative performance. He said I should notice a little decrease in MPG, but main issue is that it wouldn't pass the state inspection. The part to be replaced is $905.11 and the labor is the rest. Apparently the transmission has to be removed in order to access this part. Sigh...

Default How many miles on the car when the CEL illuminated?....

You said you waited a month for an appointment. At only 4K miles past the 50K warranty mileage limit, how long past the 4 years coverage where you? There is a good case for an argument that the problem existed before the warranty expired, but had not yet progressed to the point that the Torque converter clutch had failed completely. Therefore, you should request at least a 50/50 offer in compromise from AoA towards the cost of repairs. You have nothing to loose by pursuing the request.

especially for something like this which shouldn't fail even with double the time/mileage

Default Still within the 4yrs (until Dec). CEL on in the high came on at 53-something. (m)

I set up the service appointment immediately, but the dealer was backed up by four weeks. Any idea how to make the case to AOA? I don't think the dealer will help.

Default Is the dealer that quoted the repairs the same as the original dealer that sold your A4 new?...

If not, and the dealership that was the original dealer is near you, consider taking the car there instead. Aside from that, I recommend you first write a letter to the service manager of the dealership involved ("Chain of Command" courtesy, CC to AoA.) briefly explaining the situation, and establishing the logical arguments supporting the assertion that the causative defect existed and the initial failure began progression towards the eventual illumination of the CEL, prior to, or about the same mileage the warranty mileage limit was reached, but did not manifest any noticeable symptoms before the associated CEL was illuminated.
It is technically reasonable, based on the known failure modes that occur with torque converter clutches, that the defect causing the existing TC clutch hydraulics circuit operational failure/DTC, occurred before the warranty mileage limit was exceeded.
In the letter, considering the technical facts involved, request warranty coverage for the TC failure and state that you want the claim reviewed by the Audi regional technical representative responsible for your area.
Reserve your option of asking for a Customer loyalty 50/50 offer in compromise sharing the cost of the repairs, after the official review of the case, if it's not in your favor, if it gets to that point. There is a good chance it will eventually be covered, you will need to be persistent, and it could take awhile, with several negotiations needed.

You can email me for additional discussion if desired.
