How did your tuners handle the programming?

Was there additional fee's?

Credit given for original program? No fee's?

Additional programs 'required'?

I'm getting mixed opinions on what actually gets done to the ECU, associated fee's, and what programming is required...

I currently have GIAC FX+1 Looking to go K04.

Since the APR software is around $700, my tuner happened to be getting rid of his K04 and convinced APR that he was transfering it to his new car (mine) so they setup a promitional code for a free software download and all I had to pay was the install fee (about $300ish). Normally with APR, if you have Stage 1/1+ the upgrade to the K04 software is free, but I didn't have Stage 1/1+, so it would have been the normal $700. My K04 software consists of a stock file, 93 octane file, 100 octane file, and a valet file. I usually run it on the 93 file. Hope this helps

If you are staying with the same software tuner its going to be a small fee somewhere around $100 bucks for the flash.

each shop can choose to charge labor if they want for the new flash.

I found a GIAC tuner, who stated $150 for the software, $35 for labor. I get a credit for my old K03 Fx+1.

GIAC doesnt consider going from k03 to K04 an "upgrade". They consider it a new program.

For the $150, I get 3 programs. The K04, Race, and Valet. ;O)

I've been told by various people, I could pay upwards of $650, but would get a $450 credit for my old software. Also some stated going from K03 to K04 costs nothing. One person told me GIAC did not make a K04 file for the 2004 A4.
Another told me I did not need the K04 file, as I would get more from keeping the K03FX+1 file. Just be aware it may overboost occasionally...

To date, I've had 2 GIAC tuners state as I wrote above with the $150 fee :O)

GIAC seems to have better customer trade in /support when you go to the K04 than APR does.
