I'm saying clay's for use on fragile paint. To clean glass you could use cleanser-steel wool-whatever

Default it prolly clean it up real good and grips dirt in micro fissures

cerium just polishes the glass to be 100% smooth

I usually take a razor blade to mine whenever I replace blades or reapply Rainx.

Default So, technically you would need to do both. Just like paint, clay first, polish second.

Isn't the cutting power of the cerium like a final polish? Is there a middle polish?

Default Bad idea!

I used to do this all the time. Its amazing what it takes off, but I have accidentally cut into the glass when the angle of the blade shifts suddenly.

I wont be doing it anymore.

Default Knock on wood, I've done it for years & no issues. As long as you go slow enough & use...

the correct angle, you should be fine. Also, haven't tried it yet, but the wider paint scraper blades/handles would help this too. Not sure it the extra wide blade would work on the curved windshield though.
