Default Of course we care! Very glad that you were able to work it out with your

insurance company to your satisfaction. Kudo's for keeping with it and fighting with them! Looks like the damage is not as severe as first thought as you've been able to take it apart.

Question on the drivers air bag deployment....are you saying that if the seat belt latch was engaged that the air bag may not have deployed?

Default Man, I just checked my property damage coverage with my insurance co.

That sucks.

On a side note, does that mean I should click in the passengers seat belt when driving by myself to prevent erroneous deployment of the driver side airbag?

If true, that could save $3000/$4000 on the repair cost no?

Default hard to tell.

The problem here is that there wasn't anyone in the passenger seat. Given that there is no sensor in the seat to tell the ECU whether it's occupied or not, unlike the B7, the airbag went off as a preventive safety.

Now, had there be someone in that seat wearing a seat, I don't know if the airbag would have still gone off or not.

Again what I was trying to point out is that it shouldn't have deployed b/c nobody was sitting there.

Default Notice that the Airbag Controller has "Crash Data Stored", recorded. ...

However, VCDS/Vag-Com does not have access to the specific crash data information relevant to the event that occurred. The crash data comprises a "snap shot" of the vehicle status including but not limited to the speed, throttle position, brake activation and other information including the specific airbag deployment ignition signals, and crash sensor data that occurred during the accident.
A new airbag controller must be installed. AFAIK, a separate device is required to obtain the crash data stored in the controller. I will investigate and post back.
Also, Audi has a defeat switch retrofit kit for the pass airbag.
