Hard dilemma 02 3.0b6 or 01.5 b5 s4

True, but those comments just start arguments :) ...
I have tracked a couple chipped S4 cars and beaten both of them. Now they both used the same tuning company's chip so maybe it was a matter of crappy software, but taking out a stock B5 S4 is not a problem in the least. cheers! Mike

Mine is quattro, and I'm running a full Thermal Race system....
Now I'm not saying the 3.0 has the upper hand on torque vs. the 2.7t. I'm just saying the difference is minimal, and for the money, he'd be better off getting a newer car, B6 body style instead of the B5 which he already has, and reliability for a daily driver.
Don't get me wrong, the B5 S4 is still in my top 3 of favorite cars, I just couldn't see spending SO much money to bring it to the level of performance and reliability that I would want.

Ah, I see. And it's always good to have counter points when someone asks for opinions :)
By the way, what exactly is the Thermal Race for the 3.0? I've been under the impression there's only one version from Thermal for our cars, and that's the street. Are the pipes bigger? Or are the mufflers/resonators less restrictive than the street?
And is it the Wett chip you have? (I'm seriously considering chipping)

The 3.0 has a true dual exhaust. Dual headers, dual cats, dual...
pipes all the way back. The thermal for the 3.0 I always considered the race system because it's pretty loud, and not restrictive at all. The cats on the 3.0 already have great flow characteristics, so no need to change them, plus I think hi-flo cats are a scam anyway.
I have the wett chip. nice improvement I think. gives the car a nice little boost.
