General info for those with 1.8Ts...
As you know, you should not wait for VAG's official scheduled mileage to do your timing belt change.
Timing belts have broken prior to that scheduled mileage with catastrophic results. It is recommended by many and even perhaps by VAG that if you take the time to change the timing belt, might as well change the tensioner and water pump.
So since I'm rebuilding the motor I'm obviously going to change the timing belt, the tensioner and the water pump.
My friend who owns a small independent VW/Audi repair shop always orders a kit made by HEPU in Germany. The kit comes with all the parts that need to be changed.
One of the reasons he prefers this kit is he feels the water pump in the kit is superior to the actual OE pump from VAG.
The impeller on the OE pump is made of plastic and is known to fail/break while on the other hand the pump in the HEPU kit it is made of steel, so more reliable and longer lasting for sure. I don't know if this kit is available everywhere but the kit sells for $280 CAD here in Montreal, that's about (~ $225 USD).

Aren't you losing some weight savings between the plastic vs metal impeller WP ;-)
Just kidding!
Have you had to replace your TB et all previously? I would think with your mods and tracking that you would have had the job done at least once already.
Highly recommended to get that upgraded water pump for a TB job.
I believe Blauparts, MJM Autohaus and Pure MS offer a metal impeller water pump in their kits or as an upgrade option, along with the serpentine belt, roller and crankshaft/camshaft seals -- starting at around $225 here stateside.

LOL. I thought of that... for a billionth of a second that is until I figured out...
That durability was better then a couple of ounces saved.
Actually it is the first belt change I'm doing. The car as about 40K only on it.

Depends on who you ask and I bet every dealer will give you a little different answer. i believe the general consensus is 75K on forums and my indie / dealer.
As a side note, I just bought an 03 with 103K that had not been done and it was in pretty bad shape when i changed it, but I would not go that long.
