Default Freak interior accident. Seeking advice

Yesterday after work I noticed my credit card compartment on my center console fully opened. When I tried to close it it won't shut. No clicking noise so now I'm driving around with it opened and hitting it with my hand when I shift. What can I do to close it? Has this ever happened to anyone? My guess is it has something to do with the SoCal heat. What's a cheap solution?

Default You must have some pretty large hands,

but I'm sure you will have to take it apart to see why it's not catching. It's not that hard to remove.

Default you could stuff a piece of card board or something into it.

So it springs upward when you close and the card board catches and blocks it from re-opening...however good luck getting it opened to repair or whatever.

Default this happened to me too..

the mechanism inside is kind of over-engineered. the tray is spring-loaded, so what happens is the stop-latch that "catches" the door closed breaks or bends in a way that it stops catching the gear-teeth.

i took mine out to try and just break it entirely so that it stayed closed, but i couldn't figure out a way to keep it intact enough to put back.

my cup-holder was also starting to lose its springiness and consequently its ability to hold cups, so i bought a new one of each and just replaced them one day. it's pretty easy to do, but those things are freakin expensive. something like 40 bucks each.
